Technical Information

BRAINY is a cloud-based management system for schools (and other group-based sectors). The application is hosted in a trusted cloud, currently protected by the German Data Protection Act. No software has to be installed in schools or the users' devices. The only thing you need is a browser and a internet connection. The special framework of BRAINY allows the operation on all devices, like desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

It is programmed in VB.Net, with use of ExtJS. The business logic is for security reasons and performance written in T-SQL and is stored in the MS SQL Database.

Data Security

The data connection from the client to the server (URL connection) is secured by an ExtSSL. The encryption depth is 2048-bit, which makes it rather impossible for hackers to decrypt it. Additionally there is an internal security feature, which is called SecurityTroll. All fields and all 'calls', that lead to actions in the database, are connected to the Security-Rights-System. If an unauthorized action is discovered, the Security Troll immedeately suspens the user account from further action. In case the profile is linked to other family accounts, they will also be suspended.

All data in the database is encrypted using a self-developed encryption method. Login information ist stored separately outside the school's database, which allows a single login to more than 1 database (e.g. Elementary School, High School, Senior High School - three schools, three databases, 1 login)

Role-based Security System

Users are linked to a role, e.g. principal, teacher, parent, student. Each user can be linked to 1 role. The role is linked to a security set, which covers all legal obligations for that role, e.g. as defined in the Rules and regulations for a country, state and(/or school type. This combination leads to a specific treatment within the system and also to a specific icon for the user. The ruleset cannot be altered by an administrator of the school. Additional functionalities can be added to users, as 'class teacher', 'parent speaker', 'coordinator', which leads to increased rights im the system. There's another security feature that we call 'group membership'. A user can only interact with groups that he is member of. A student of class 7A cannot interact with students of clacc 9B, when he has no shared courses with them.

Modular System Provides High Flexibility

The entire system is modular, so you can decide which modules you want to use. Some modules require other modules, like the Certification Module requires the marks from the Grading Module.

BRAINY is a better Facebook

As BRAINY operates with closed user groups, and action is always marked with the real name of the user, BRAINY can act as a schools' secure Facebook. Even profile pages are thinkable, also alumni pages. This will fasten the contact of schools to their former students, which can also lead to a benefit for both sides.

Remark: as BRAINY will work in schools all over the world, some features may not be needed in all countries.
